I hope you had a nice 4th of July holiday. Here at Techny, we celebrated with a picnic for our local benefactors and friends. We invited a group of Vietnamese sisters who are studying at our college seminary in Iowa to join us for our all-American celebration. We had burgers, hot dogs, games for kids, live music, and a very nice view of the local fireworks from our front hill.
We invited the sisters to come because we wanted to share with them our celebration of freedom, something many in their home country are still denied. You may know that over the last thirty years, our religious community has been richly blessed with many vocations from the Vietnamese community in the United States. Fr. Mike Hutchins SVD and the administration of our college seminary decided that we could give something back to the Church in Vietnam by offering these sisters an accredited college-level education. For the past two years, the sisters have been enrolled in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at the college. Some of the sisters will soon enter the regular college program and work toward their four-year degree. The sisters who already completed college in Vietnam will do advanced academic programs in the United States after completing ESL.
Let’s continue to pray for Christians who are persecuted for their faith and for the missionaries who serve them.
Thank you again for your support. I hope you will enjoy the rest of your summer.
