"The world without the Cross would be a world without hope."
(Pope Benedict XVI, April, 2010)
Mass Holy Cross Church, Nicosia, Cyprus, 2010

Hope is probably not the first thought that comes to mind when we think of the cross.  The Holy Father acknowledged this.  The cross is an instrument of torture and suffering.  It also serves as a symbol of devotion and a sign of identification.  But the Pope reiterated his main point.  The cross is "the most eloquent symbol of hope that the world has ever seen."

As the Holy Father says, Jesus’s death on the cross . . .
             speaks of love,
speaks of the victory of nonviolence over oppression,
speaks of God raising up the lowly, empowering the weak,
conquering division, and overcoming hatred with love.

You can bring HOPE to thousands around the world...
During Lent, the Church proposes prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
