A letter from the Mission Director:

November 2 is All Souls Day, the day the Catholic Church commemorates all the faithful departed. It is typically seen as a solemn day as we remember loved ones who have gone before us. But as Pope Francis has said, All Souls Day is also a day of hope.

All Souls Day assures us that in Christ we have the hope of being reunited with our loved ones in heaven for eternity. This beautiful day also reminds us that we have the power to bring hope to those here on earth who suffer and drastically need our help.

In 2022, Pope Francis said in his All Souls Day homily that God is “waiting for us
among the poor and wounded of the world.”

So, as we remember and pray for our beloved departed, we are also called to seek God in the faces of the most vulnerable.

Today, I invite you to please join me and Divine Word Missionaries worldwide in observing All Souls Day and sending hope to the poorest of the poor.

Please add the name/s of your loved ones to this form. Their names will be placed in our beautiful Chapel of the Word here at the Techny Mission Center. All who visit the chapel will remember them in prayer. Then, on November 2, your loved ones will be remembered in the intentions of Divine Word Missionaries around the world as they celebrate Mass on the Feast of All Souls.

Along with your intentions … if you can … please send a gift in honor of your loved ones. Your offering will give us the resources to provide food, shelter and other essentials to the most vulnerable––those society has overlooked.

Together, we can lift up people in 79 countries with the knowledge that all is not lost … that someone cares … and that there is hope for tomorrow!

In Kenya, caring friends like you help our missionaries distribute urgently needed food to the poor of Kayole, a suburb of Nairobi. Many of them are elderly, abandoned by their families and left to die. The situation is heartbreaking, but because of compassionate friends like you, these desperate souls who felt utterly alone now feel the love and grace—the hope— of God in their lives.

A world away in the Philippines, your support provides the homeless—pregnant women, the elderly and the disabled—with food, hygiene items, clean clothing and safe shelter so they can regain their sense of worth and feel human again. With your help, our missionaries provide educational programs, spiritual formation and skills training so these women and men can find good jobs and leave homelessness and poverty behind.

With your partnership, we declare to the people we serve that they are children of God, born with inherent dignity and loved beyond measure. Remember that while we are here on earth, our brothers and sisters from every corner of the world are counting on us not to forget their plight.

On All Souls Day, we take time to remember our departed loved ones. And we take solace in the hope of being reunited in heaven.

Divine Word Missionaries will be honored to remember your dear ones as we celebrate All Souls Day Mass on November 2. Please act now to send a compassionate gift that will give hope to the world’s poor and marginalized.

Yours in Christ’s name,

Bro. Dan Holman
