New Beginnings in Norway
In March 2018, Father General Heinz Kulüke visited our new mission in Oslo, Norway which is under the auspices of our Polish Province.
He met our confreres Piotr Adam Sledz and Anthony Erragudi, our pioneer missionaries, visited the parish where we do ministry, and met with some members of the Polish community.
Our confreres came to Oslo to address the pastoral needs of the Polish communities there. However, they also celebrate Masses for various groups in English. As it turns out, Norway's population of 5.4 million includes more than 180 nationalities and Masses are held in at multiple languages.
The bishop of the Diocese of Oslo is happy and grateful for the SVD involvement in his diocese. However, he is eager to have more SVDs. The most urgent need at this point is the work with the Tamil-speaking community. The bishop is asking concretely whether the SVDs can send Tamil speaking confreres.
The bishop and especially the people are very grateful for the SVD pastoral services in Oslo. The intercultural environment fits the charism of the Society very well.
Father General thanks Anthony and Piotr for their dedication to this particular mission in a cold and challenging climate with very warm and friendly people.
