In a few weeks, on June 12, the Church will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. This feast reveals the deep truth of our faith: God’s love is not distant or abstract. It has a heart that burns with compassion for each of us.
For St. Arnold Janssen, founder of Divine Word Missionaries, the Sacred Heart was much more than a devotion—it was the engine of a mission. He believed that the Heart of Jesus longs for every person in every nation. That belief compelled St. Arnold to carry the burning love of Christ to all corners of the world. The fire that first sent missionaries across oceans and into unfamiliar lands 150 years ago still ignites our hearts today.
Guided by the flame of the Sacred Heart, we serve in villages, cities, migrant communities and parishes across 79 countries. In Colombia, where Divine Word Missionaries have served since 1962, 40 missionaries work among the poor facing unemployment, poverty and violence. Your generosity brings hope through education, job training, and outreach to Afro-Colombian and Indigenous families in remote areas with little access to health care or schools. Together, we provide food, aid and the light of Christ to those most in need.
